Get App-y: 'The Hunger Games' has new app

But the free “The Hunger Games Adventures” from Lions Gate Entertainment does a decent job of offering a relatively interesting game for the iPad while avoiding the morbid, heavy plot twists. Don't turn to this app for fast-paced killing, racing or dodging objects being hurled at you; it's designed for players who like this slow-paced adventure style of game-playing.

When you start the story, you're a person who has things to build, tasks to complete and people like Katniss, Gale and Peeta, the main characters in “The Hunger Games,” to help or talk to as you explore the land of Panem. The app is straightforward in lining up your tasks, but you're performing them against nicely designed backdrops that include places like the Seam and the Hob in District 12 and others at the Capitol. In playing this game, developed by Funtactix, you see the Games unfold from another perspective than that of the main characters, a tactic that keeps the mobile game fresh.

This new iPad game coincides with last month's release of the movie on DVD and is separate from the older “Hunger Games: Girl on Fire” app on the iTunes store.
