Did you know the average American sits for seven hours a day. If you are one of the many people who sit behind a desk most of the day, then you know how easy it is to become sleepy and sluggish, not to mention stiff and uncomfortable.

Most people who exercise regularly say that staying active makes them feel healthier and more energetic. While you can't set up a treadmill or start a tennis match at work, there are many simple office exercises that you can do at work with healthy benefits.
The body does not like to stay in one position for a long period. By simply leaning back and reaching from side to side in your chair, you can prevent tension from building and promote flexibility in your body. It's also important to get up and walk around once an hour. So, try and take advantage of any opportunity that allows you to get on your feet and move around. (It's not always a bad idea leaving your lunch in your car!) You should also consider the elevator to be broken; take the stairs. Use a pedometer to track how many steps you've taken and aim for 6,000 to 10,000 steps a day. If you are able, sit on an exercise ball instead of your chair. This will help strengthen your abdominal and back muscles while improving your posture.
A little movement is better than none. Be creative and have fun with it.
