Is there someone in the linebacking corps who isn't a starter who could see a lot of time?

Absolutely. I think there at least one third-string guy (Joe Mitchell) will see a lot of time. Ryan Simmons has had a really good camp and could legitimately push Caleb Lavey for the starting job in the middle. Lyndell Johnson, though undersized, had a great spring and is really strong in pass protection. Great athleticism and eye for the football. Nico Ornelas should play some. The depth and speed that Gundy talks about when he talks about this defense starts at linebacker. This is a stacked group with a lot of young talent behind the starters.

Which freshman wide receiver will have the better year, Shepard or Curry?

Right now I would definitely say Curry. He's been running with the first team occasionally and is Tracy Moore's backup. Other than Lunt, he's the only true freshman on the preseason depth chart, so expectations were high even before camp. After him, I think the freshman WR pecking order goes Blake Webb--a speedy inside guy--and then, believe it or not, Austin Hays--who has been a surprise of camp. I think Sheperd has a lot of potential, but those other guys have performed better so far this fall.

Any word on a Walsh package being worked on in practice?

Good question. Nothing specific within the last week. The latest I heard was that perhaps Walsh's role wasn't going to be in a "package" (like the Belldozer), but that he would run certain plays within OSU's system that cater more toward his skill set. He's getting reps in practice and running some zone read stuff, and throwing, as well. He's another guy we'll see plenty of against Savannah State. I'm curious to see what plays he runs.
