An 11-year-old girl died after drowning in a backyard pool this evening in northwest Oklahoma City.
Police responded to a call at 3828 NW 9 St. about 6:20 p.m. after receiving reports that the girl jumped into an above-ground pool and didn’t resurface.
“One of her friends pulled her up, kind of kept her above water,” said Lt. Wade Gourley of the Oklahoma City Police Department.
An officer was able to pull her out of the pool. She was taken to a city hospital where she died.
Police are not releasing the identity of the victim.
