EDMOND — Daisha Gonzaque was honored with all of Edmond Santa Fe's basketball seniors after the Wolves' 68-41 win over Yukon on Tuesday.

But despite the 20-plus Gonzaque family members there, one was noticeably missing.

Gonzaque's father, David, died early Monday, just one day before Santa Fe's Senior Night.

“The day after everything happened, it was hard to decide to play,” Gonzaque said. “But I know my dad, and that's what he would really want me to do. He would want me to play for him, and I did.”

Gonzaque scored 11 points in Tuesday's win, which made No. 1 Edmond Santa Fe 21-0 on the season.

Edmond Santa Fe players, coaches and trainers wore special T-shirts that were ordered by a parent late Monday. Printed on the back was, “For the Gonzaques.”

Gonzaque found out about her father's unexpected death Monday morning and missed school. All of her Santa Fe teammates came to visit her at home.

“I couldn't have played without them,” Gonzaque said of her teammates. “They came over to my house yesterday and picked me up when I was down. Without them, I couldn't have done anything I did tonight. We're a family.”
