Girls basketball roundup: Shawnee wins Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic for second time in three years

McKenzie Cooper scored 21 points and Shawnee held off Mount St. Mary 41-37 Saturday to win the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic in Ada.

McKenzie Cooper scored 21 points and Shawnee held off Mount St. Mary 41-37 Saturday to win the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic in Ada.

The Wolves trailed 20-19 at halftime, but took a 29-28 lead after three quarters behind a basket from Cooper, who earned MVP honors.

The win marks the second time in three years that Shawnee has won the annual holiday tournament.

Adrienne Berry and Kaely Bond each scored 13 points for the Rockets.

Bailey Taylor also scored 10 points for Shawnee.

ROBERTS LIFTS CLASSEN TO CHAMPIONSHIP

Since returning from a foot injury, Classen SAS freshman Taylor Roberts has been nearly unstoppable.

She was nothing short of that during three games at Crooked Oak's Bricktown Bash, scoring 27 points to lead the Comets to a 72-51 victory against Centennial on Saturday for the tournament championship.

Roberts was named the tournament MVP after averaging 30.6 points per game.

Classen led 16-7 after one quarter and increased that lead to 38-19 at halftime.

Kennedy Williams added 19 points for the Comets.

THOMPSON LEADS BROKEN ARROW TO MID-DEL TITLE

Broken Arrow senior Toree Thompson just had to relax.

After missing a few key free throws with less than 90 seconds remaining, the Ole Miss signee made two free throws with 29 seconds left to help Broken Arrow hold off Midwest City 60-54 in the championship game of the Mid-Del Holiday Invitational at Del City.
