He was born in Raleigh, N.C., but went to high school in Washington D.C. His primary basketball coaching experience has come in the boys game.

"I'll have to adjust to more of a floor game than what we can do up around the rim,” said Turner, who has a master's degree in education administration from North Carolina State. "I like a challenge. I'll study the women's game and go to clinics.

"And from what I hear, I've go two great assistants.”

Turner found out about the Mustang opening when his fiancé moved to Oklahoma City as part of the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise.

Turner was on a staff of a North Carolina prep team that won a state title in 1990, finished ranked 14th in the nation by USA Today and featured current NBA player Brendan Haywood.

"We're real excited about having him,” said Mustang athletic director Mike Clark.

"He's been a coach about eight years and has been a part of nationally ranked programs in AAU and has impressive credentials. He had a really good interview, and we're just really excited about having him here.”

Turner will serve as an administrative intern with the school system.

He replaces Nichole Copeland, who resigned this summer after compiling a record of 160-50 and guiding the Broncos to the 2006 Class 6A state championship.

The two-time Oklahoman Big All-City Coach of the Year also took Mustang to the 6A final in 2007.
