MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York are weighing in on Wisconsin's Senate race, following a recent ad by GOP candidate Tommy Thompson that invokes the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Republican Giuliani says it would be an embarrassment if Democrat Tammy Baldwin is elected to the Senate following her House vote against a resolution honoring the victims.

But Schumer, a Democrat, says Thompson's ad criticizing the vote shows lack of character. He says using a tragedy for political gain is disgraceful.

Baldwin defends the 2006 vote, saying it was based on other language in the resolution reflecting Republican initiatives she opposed. She was one of 22 Democrats who opposed it.

Baldwin voted nine other times in favor of resolutions honoring the victims.
