ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — General Motors CEO Mary Barra (BAR-uh) is telling college students to address challenges head-on and take action right away.

In remarks prepared for Saturday's University of Michigan commencement, Barra says problems don't go away when they are ignored — they get bigger.

She should know. Her company is recalling 2.6 million older small cars to fix a deadly ignition switch problem that's been linked to at least 13 deaths.

GM has admitted knowing about the problem for at least a decade. But it failed to start recalling the cars until February.

Barra's prepared remarks made no mention of the recall. But she urged students at Michigan Stadium to be honest, fair and keep their promises.

About 9,500 undergraduate, professional and graduate students received their degrees.
