Golf: Shelby Martinek of Tampa, Fla., tops Women's Southern Golf Association qualifier

The lowest 32 scores from the field of 80 will be bracketed for match play, which begins Tuesday. A 36-hole championship match is scheduled Friday.

Shelby Martinek of Tampa, Fla., had a 2-under-par 70 on Monday and led the field at the Women’s Southern Golf Association qualifier at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.

Martinek edged Summar Roachell of Conway, Ark., by one stroke. Five other players, including Jayde Panos of Stillwater and defending champion Hally Leadbetter of Bradenton, Fla., were tied for third place with even-par 72s.

The WSGA is an 11-state region that includes North Carolina, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia. This is the first time in 78 years the century-old tournament has been held in Oklahoma.
