To keep Sequoyah-Tahlequah from winning an unprecedented fourth straight Class 3A state championship may be too much to ask just one team. Two more will get a chance, but if the Indians play like they did Thursday in their state tournament opener at Oklahoma City University, it will take an effort for the ages.

Angel Goodrich scored 27 points and Sequoyah overcame an early deficit to romp past Marietta 67-33. The Indians will face Adair in Friday’s 4:30 p.m. semifinal at State Fair Arena. Marietta got 18 points from Tanica Anderson, but little help from anyone else.

Marietta opened the game with a 6-1 burst, giving its raucous crowd hope, but Sequoyah answered with a 12-2 run and Anderson picked up her fourth foul with 1:13 left in the second quarter. From there it was a rout and Sequoyah was one step closer to history.
