Google Glass: My hair blocks the camera often

I have a lot of observations about Google Glass that I am going to start sharing over the next few weeks, now that I am back from vacation. It has been a fun experiment to wear this computer with a heads-up display (see previous stories here and here), and I’ve shared the device with many people and heard their observations.

Here is one of the first things I noticed when I picked up Glass at Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.: I have the wrong haircut. Swoop-y bangs on my right-hand side are just long enough to fall in front of the hole that is the camera in the device. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I find myself holding my hair back in the wind or when I’m looking down to make sure I get the right shot. I have several shots with hair blocking the view, as seen below.

I do like the camera, though. It’s 5 MP, similar to my iPhone 4S and the video records at 720p. It’s nice to be able to shoot photos or video without having to hold up a device.

One of my favorite memories recorded by the camera on our vacation was a fun, intense card game that my children and I played, while I recorded with Glass. They knew I was recording, but because the device is so unobtrusive, we didn’t even notice it. The results are a fun snapshot of our family time together that I will treasure.

What would you use Glass to do? Send me an email with your thoughts at lbrinkman@opubco.com
