Regarding “Coburn says GOP may block appellate nominee” (News, June 8): Blockage of judicial nominations from Oklahoma is an all-too-familiar example of petty, immature, partisan behavior exhibited by U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and some other Senate Republicans. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals seat and the district judgeship have been vacant for two years. First, Oklahoman Republican Sens. Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn blocked President Obama's nominees and now, even with the approval of Inhofe and Coburn, Senate leaders are using obstinate blocking tactics.
Those who proclaim that they have the best interests of America as their guiding principles but who allow the court dockets to go into lengthy delays aren't consistent with their rhetoric. This type of behavior is unconscionable for our Senate leaders and certainly hurts Oklahoma in that the nominees from our state are blocked. Even Coburn deemed this behavior as “stupid.”
