Stock your home library by visiting the Friends of the Metropolitan Library System's “Buy the Box” sale set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the book sorting site, 300 NE 50 (between Santa Fe and N Lincoln).

Books are pre-boxed by category and range in price from between $3.50 and $25. Book categories available are: romance (paperback), mystery, religion, fiction, and children's. Only cash or checks will be accepted. For more information, go to www.mls.lib.ok.us.

New heels

hit campus

Every fall, college campuses swarm with women wearing all kinds of flats, but there are always a few who walk across campus in stilettos. There's a different breed of shoe showing up: The high-top wedge sneaker is a heel and sport shoe hybrid, providing a middle ground.

Mesh panels, white leather-cap toes and Velcro are nods to traditional sneaks.

Historian to sign books

Historian Glen V. McIntyre will sign his book “Enid: 1893-1945” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Best of Books, 1313 E Danforth Road.

The book is a photographic history of Enid.

OCU to hold art socials

Oklahoma City University's artist in residence Mike Wimmer will host art socials in the university's studios this fall. The events are free.

The drawing and painting socials will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and on Oct. 18 and Nov. 9 in OCU's Norick Art Center at NW 26 and Blackwelder Avenue. They will include live music and models in costume. Participants should bring their own art supplies.
