District officials will present a recommendation that would require students to take a course from the physical sciences in order to graduate.

Students still would need three science credits to graduate, but the new requirements would specify that one of those credits be a course from the physical sciences.

There are several classes students could choose from to meet the requirement, said Jeff Patterson, district science coordinator.

If approved, the changes would start with next year’s freshmen, graduating in 2014.
