McALESTER — Grand jury selection was completed around 2 p.m. today in the investigation of other alleged sex crimes by David Harold Earls. The jury is made up of eight men and four women, plus alternates of two men and one woman.
Earls was convicted of raping a 4-year-old girl and is jailed until Sept. 24 after plea bargaining a one-year sentence, in a case that attracted a national outcry.
Testimony is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the temporary Pittsburg County Courthouse, said Charlie Price, spokesman for Attorney General Drew Edmondson. There’s no way of knowing how long the jury will take to hear testimony and consider any indictments.
“I know they’re planning for just as long as it takes,” Price said.
Edmondson said his investigators worked in three states and found evidence of Earls’ alleged crimes that haven’t been prosecuted and are still valid under the statute of limitations.
