DENVER (AP) — A fund set up to help eliminate dead zones for wireless Internet service nationwide is awarding nearly $33 million to expand coverage in eight Colorado counties and almost $23 million to serve three Wyoming counties.

The Federal Communications Commission said Wednesday that in Colorado, NE Colorado Cellular Inc. is receiving almost $32 million to fill in some gaps in 3G and 4G coverage in parts of Baca, Conejos, Jackson, Larimer, Las Animas, Mineral and Saguache (suh-WAHCH') counties. ATN/Commnet is receiving almost $650,000 to boost third- and fourth-generation wireless coverage in Pueblo County.

In Wyoming, Union Telephone Co. is getting nearly $23 million for Carbon, Fremont and Sweetwater counties.

Companies bid for the money. They must complete their work within three years and make their networks available to other providers.
