The Oklahoma City Fire Department has won a grant for $10,000 from Liberty Mutual Insurance to buy smoke alarms, a company spokeswoman said Monday.

As part of a nationwide online contest, firefighters here urged people to take the quiz. Two cities with the most people who took the quiz won.

The goal was to get 1 percent of the population to take the quiz. The total number of Oklahoma City residents who took the quiz was about 700 — not as many as officials hoped but enough to win.

Fire Battalion Chief Tim Adams said the grant matched with federal money will pay for about 4,000 smoke alarms to be distributed in central Oklahoma City.
