Regarding “A campaign nadir” (ScissorTales, Feb. 16): Angela Monson has been a proponent of early childhood education since first serving in the Legislature. The advances made in early childhood education over the past four years have been incredible. The Oklahoma City School District is on track to offer all 4-year-old students the opportunity to attend all-day prekindergarten in the next year or two. Monson has been a passionate advocate for children her entire career. I worked with her to develop after-school programs in our parks, churches and community centers for kids attending Oklahoma City schools before she was even elected to the school board.

Monson's leadership and vision have been to create an education system of excellence starting at age 4, and for all children, extending the normal school hours another one to two hours to participate in after-school remedial education and recreation experience. For Monson's uncompensated service and devotion to the children of our district this past four years, we owe her a debt of gratitude.
