Marilyn: Your reply to the question about wasting water was somewhat misleading. (September 20, 2009) Watering the lawn is useful. Lawns use evaporative cooling to provide a better buffer than even the whitest rock can against whatever global warming might be occurring. Using a siphon hose to move sea water from the Pacific Ocean to the Salton Sea would actually dilute the salt concentration of the semi-full sea and cool a much larger area. Using another siphon hose to fill Death Valley would cool another relatively large area.
