NORMAN — More than 50 teams of professional and amateur grillers from across the United States competed for prizes and fed crowds of spectators during the state's first barbecue challenge sponsored by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
Mike Payne and Stu Wintrode, of Oklahoma City, with Hogs on the Sauce, walked away with the grand prize of $7,000 Saturday at the Smokin' Up a Storm Charity Challenge at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.
All proceeds of the two-day event, which opened Friday, were donated to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Guests sampled barbecue while browsing product vendors and exhibitors. The challenge also featured live music and giveaways that included a barbecue smoker worth $2,500.
