Valerie Aubert expects to have 2,500 volunteers ready to fix up homes throughout the metro area this spring. All she needs now are the houses.

The application deadline for the Rebuilding Together spring workday is Sunday, said Aubert, executive director of the organization, which matches volunteers with seniors who need home repairs but are unable to afford them.

The spring workday, May 2, will be a home improvement blitz, Aubert said. About 50 houses will receive repairs ranging from yard work to painting to accessibility modifications. Some of the more advanced teams replace doors and windows.

Aside from the spring workday, Rebuilding Together volunteers do emergency work throughout the year, Aubert said. Much of the emergency work involves accessibility repairs, such as installing a ramp or modifying a bathroom.
