DOVER, Del. (AP) — An advocacy group is pushing lawmakers to providing funding to upgrade a popular state-run water park in Kent County.

Advocates say millions of dollars are needed to make Killens Pond Water Park in Felton a first-class attraction.

They say the park will be safe when it opens Memorial Day weekend, but that time and the elements are taking a serious toll on the 17-year-old facility.

Tom Feurer, president of Friends of Killens Pond State Park, says about $300,000 is being spent to address immediate safety needs, including repairs to the waters slides and the towers that support them. The group estimates another $500,000 will be needed over the next year for other repairs and renovations, and that it will take more than $2 million for a complete renovation and expansion.
