Guide to Class 4A No. 9 Weatherford at Class 5A No. 10 McGuinness

by Jacob Unruh Modified: September 20, 2013 at 4:05 pm •  Published: September 20, 2013

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: McGuinness High School

Records: Weatherford 1-0; McGuinness 0-2

Last week: Weatherford vs. Duncan canceled due to inclement weather; Tulsa Kelley 25, McGuinness 22

Players to watch: Weatherford — Garrett Gaunt, QB. A member of The Oklahoman’s Preseason Class 4A All-State Team, Gaunt threw 10 touchdowns last season and has shown improvement this season.

McGuinness — Jacob Lewis, QB. Lewis, No. 27 on the latest Super 30, couldn’t be off to a worse start this season. He’s thrown six interceptions in the Irish’s two losses. How he rebounds will be huge.

Storylines: Weatherford — A week off could benefit the Eagles, who will need running back Jacob Hoffman to have a big game against the bigger McGuinness players.

McGuinness — Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. They have drastically hurt the Irish early in the season. It’s a bit cliché, but if the Irish avoid the turnovers they have a good chance to get that elusive victory.

The pick: McGuinness 28, Weatherford 21
