Guide to Class 5A No. 2 Guthrie at Enid

by Jacob Unruh Modified: September 20, 2013 at 2:05 pm •  Published: September 20, 2013

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: Enid High School

Records: Guthrie 2-0; Enid 1-1

Last week: Guthrie 62, Ponca City 13; Enid 32, Edmond Memorial 27

Players to watch: Guthrie — Kai Callins, Ath. Callins scored four touchdowns last week, showing how healthy his surgically repaired knee really is. If he keeps putting up big numbers, college offers should start coming any day now.

Enid — Hank Schulz, LB. Started for the first time last week and recorded 11 tackles as part of the Plainsmen defense that limited Edmond Memorial star running back Warren Wand to just 98 yards.

Storylines: Guthrie — It’s been a rather easy non-district schedule for the Bluejays and they enter favored again Friday. But it’s been a good time for coach Rafe Watkins to see some players develop, especially quarterback Reed Roberts.

Enid — Can the Plainsmen pull off a second straight upset? Offensively, Guthrie will be tougher to handle than Edmond Memorial, which made some early mistakes to fall behind. Shut down Callins, like they did Wand, and this game could turn.

The pick: Guthrie 35, Enid 21
