Guide to Deer Creek at No. 4 Lawton MacArthur

by Jacob Unruh Modified: November 15, 2013 at 10:10 am •  Published: November 15, 2013

When: 7 p.m., Friday

Where: Cameron Stadium

Radio: KTOK-AM 1000

Records: Deer Creek 6-4, 4-3 District 5A-2 (fourth); Lawton MacArthur 8-2, 6-1 District 5A-1 (first)

Last week: McGuinness 56, Deer Creek 21; MacArthur 30, Ardmore 22

Players to watch: Deer Creek — Eli Hooks, DE. After totaling 12 sacks last season in 12 games, Hooks has equaled that in just 10 games. His speed and athleticism will be huge against an up-tempo team like the Highlanders.

Lawton MacArthur — Will Collins, QB. The Highlanders have a good history with quarterbacks, and Collins appears to be no different. The junior has completed 70 percent of his passes for 1,923 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Storylines: Deer Creek — The Antlers have been pushed around up front multiple times this season. MacArthur generally blocks well up front and that could be the difference.

Lawton MacArthur — The Highlanders’ defense needs to show up. They have played better since winning a 71-56 shootout with Duncan on Oct. 17, but there is still some concern with Deer Creek’s high-powered offense.

Bonus: Check out my Friday Night Lights story on Deer Creek receiver Cole Verble and his journey since his father’s death.

The pick: Lawton MacArthur 42, Deer Creek 31
