When: 7 p.m., Friday
Where: Jelsma Stadium
Records: McGuinness 5-3, 4-1 District 5A-2; Guthrie 8-0, 5-0
Players to watch: McGuinness — Jacob Lewis, QB. Early in the season, turnover issues were a big problem for the dual-threat quarterback. The past three weeks, though, were a chance for him to get things under control as the Irish rolled to victories against the soft part of its schedule.
Guthrie — Kai Callins, RB/DB. Can anyone slow down Callins now that he has shown he is healthy? Last week’s three touchdowns were impressive, too. Now that he’s also being used in the Wildcat formation — and he has a TD pass to show for it — teams have more to even worry about.
Storylines: McGuinness — The Irish has a chance to cause chaos in the district with a win, which would likely force a three-way tie atop the district alongside defending champion Carl Albert. A loss puts McGuinness and Deer Creek playing in Week 10 for third and fourth in the district.
Guthrie — It’s simple: A win locks up the district championship for the Bluejays.
The pick: Guthrie 28, McGuinness 14
