Guide to No. 6 Poteau vs. No. 3 Douglass

by Jacob Unruh Modified: November 30, 2013 at 11:35 am •  Published: November 30, 2013

When: 1:30 p.m., Saturday

Where: McAlester High School

Records: Poteau 11-1 (6-1 District 4A-4, first); Douglass 11-1 (7-0 District 4A-2, first)

Last week: Poteau 10, Clinton 7; Douglass 29, Oologah 25

Players to watch: Poteau — Jace Pitchford, QB. The senior has been great, throwing for 1,354 yards and 22 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,122 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’ll present an interesting challenge for the Trojans’ stout defense.

Douglass — Deondre Clark, DE/RB. The LSU commitment has been spectacular as expected on the defensive line, piling up 18 sacks before last week’s game. What is still surprising is his ability as a running back. He’s posted 21 touchdowns as a running back.

Storylines: Poteau — Find a way to slow down Clark, at least offensively. Few can slow him down when he is attacking the quarterback, so go after him on offense. Make the Trojans look elsewhere offensively.

Douglass — Find a way to play with the lead. Last week the Trojans had to rally in the fourth quarter for the victory. At some point, that could prove very troublesome as the playoffs progress.

The pick: Douglass 17, Poteau 14
