Gundy to call OSU's offensive plays

STILLWATEROklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said Monday that he will call the Cowboys plays on offense.

Gundy called the plays in OSU's 49-33 win in the Insight Bowl after offensive coordinator Larry Fedora left for Southern Mississippi, and since then he has gone back and forth deciding if he wanted to keep the play calling responsibilities.

In the end, he said, his decision came down to two factors.

First, he said, OSU's no-huddle, hurry-up offense essentially runs itself.

"The way our system's run, (play calling) is really overrated," Gundy said. "Now, the system Larry brought in here is a very good system and we believe in it, and Larry's a good football coach and a good play caller. I'm not taking anything away from him or the way it was."

Second, he enjoys it.

"It's enjoyable for me to be in the room with (the offensive coaches) during the week, and the strategy that goes into it is the funnest part as a coach," Gundy said. "Being in my office and dealing with all the other issues is not fun. Going in there and coaching offense is fun."

Gundy said the plays are already finished for Saturday's opener against Washington State.

"It's already done anyway," Gundy said. "It's already scripted and finished for the first game. And it will be on Thursday morning prior to the Saturday game."

I've learned to skip over richard's insignificance. At the time of the press conference, the script for the first game was already written. For all future games, the script will be written by the Thursday before the game. Unless there's a bye week, in which case it could be written earlier.

Richard, we all understand you hate Gundy. Point made. No one is coming with you. But if you insist on continually posting, can you keep the obnoxious level down? No need for 12 question marks. One gets the point across.

"The way our system's run, is really overrated," Gundy said. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fear not! At 9-18 in conference play and 18-19 over-all, trust me, there's not a big long line overrating your "system". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Gundy said: "Now, the system Larry brought in here is a very good system and we believe in it, and Larry's a good football coach and a good play caller. I'm not taking anything away from him or the way it was." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The way is WAS" ????????????????? It's "a very good system" and you "believe in it" BUT you're "not taking anything away from him"????? The "way it WAS"????? ------------------------------------------------------------------- More often than not, that's how you can tell if someone really believe's in something, they avoid acting on those belief's and do something totally different.

Richard, don't rag on Gundy for that quote. I'd say there's about a 95% chance that he was misquoted based on this paper's history. I would assume he meant it would be done "on Thursday morning prior to every Saturday game". If you're going to rag on him, go after him for using the word 'funnest' (I can't image any editor would let that in if it wasn't the correct quote).

"It's already done anyway," Gundy said. "It's already scripted and finished for the first game. Monday... August 25th... or "Thursday morning prior to the Saturday game" (that would be the 28th) ???????????? Inspiring!

Yeah, I know Chris, it's sad but true. I just don't know why they bother with all those cool tabs across the top of this screen if they're not going to use them. Oh well, better things to worry about.

They put OU sports stuff in 'news' so why not OSU stuff? It's Oklahoma - it's football - it's news. You must not be from around here, K... ;-)

What's good for the goose...this is not news, this is sports, why doesn't anyone at this site know the difference?
