Jerry Krich, co-owner of a successful dog kennel in south Guthrie, died unexpectedly Sunday. He was 69.

Krich and his wife, Bev, bought Country Kennel at 10150 S Sooner Road in December 2004, as a retirement project.

“I was old enough to retire, but I knew I didn't want to sit on a patio all day,” Krich, an Illinois native who worked 33 years in sales for waste management companies there, told The Oklahoman in March 2011.

Customers expressed fond memories of Krich.

“We travel a lot to our kids' sporting events, and board our dogs — yellow and chocolate labradors “TJ” and “Ranger” — there a lot,” said Angie Warren of northeast Edmond. “They're always happy to go.”

Krich called and sent a card when she had to put down their beloved dachshund, Pumpkin, a few years ago, Warren said.

Keri Jennings Taylor, of Edmond, said bringing her Australian shepherds there is like visiting grandparents — both human, referring to the Kriches, and canine ones, because Brilie, her blue merle, was bred at Country Kennel.
