Hail up to baseball size possible

by Bryan Painter Published: April 23, 2014

From the National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office:

“Initial thunderstorms will probably be supercells, capable of producing very large hail up to baseball size and wind gusts to 80 mph.

During the evening, when thunderstorms move into central Oklahoma, they may form

a larger complex of rain and thunder producing smaller hail and strong winds.”

Again in terms of today, the hazardous weather outlook reports, “Severe thunderstorms are

expected to develop near a
dryline in the panhandles this afternoon and move into western
Oklahoma and western north Texas during the second half of the
afternoon. Impacts are expected from very large hail to baseball
size and damaging wind gusts 70 to 80 mph. During the evening
thunderstorms are expected to form a squall line while they move
into central Oklahoma. When this occurs impacts will be possible
from damaging wind gusts.”

The hazardous weather outlook shows, “Severe storms are expected Saturday and Sunday
when a large storm system approaches the Southern Plains. Those who
are planning or participating in outdoor activities in the weekend
need to pay particularly close attention to weather forecasts.”
