Nick Arrojo didn’t have to look far for inspiration for his new book, "Great Hair: Secrets to Looking Fabulous and Feeling Beautiful Every Day” or for his hair product line.

He watched how his mother handled her hair, the products she used, and how they worked.

"If it works for me mum, it will work for everybody else,” said Arrojo, stylist on TLC’s "What Not to Wear.”

Arrojo said the book took two years to put together because it covers detailed and specific information. He didn’t want to give the book a broad stroke.

"We’re trying to give people the tips that we know, to make it realistic for an individual that’s not a hairstylist,” he said. "I’ve been educating hairstylists for 25 years. I wanted to educate the real person.”

While the focus is not on makeovers, the book features real women and real makeovers, with looks to appeal to ages 16 to 60. He said every woman can benefit from a hair change, but it’s not as simple as sitting in a stylist’s chair and asking for the perfect hairstyle.

"Getting great hair is not just about one experience,” he said.
