NORMAN — Hal Ezzell is resigning his Ward 3 city council post, effective July 31. Ezzell said he has remarried and will be moving out of Ward 3, which would make him ineligible to continue serving.
Ezzell notified other council members and the mayor by email Tuesday afternoon. According to the city charter, the remaining council members will have to decide on and vote for a replacement.
Ezzell has been a Ward 3 councilman since 2007. He made an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2010.
“It is with mixed emotions that I resign,” Ezzell said in his email. “I had every expectation of fulfilling my third, and final, term on the council.”
However, he said, when he remarried he “doubled my child count from 3 to 6 children, necessitating a search for a larger house to accommodate all of us.”
Ezzell said he did not expect to sell his house and find another house to buy so quickly.
In the email tendering his resignation, Ezzell said he hoped the council would follow the charter and vote for a replacement quickly.
