The Ottawa Citizen reports that the female division winner of last weekend's Run for Heroes in Amherstburg, Ontario was a 34-year-old woman who made a wrong turn from the half-marathon course to the full 26.2-mile race.

Meredith Fitzmaurice noticed there were only nine men ahead of her and no women after realizing the mistake that put her on the full marathon route. A race official informed her that the director would honor her race as a completion of the full distance.

Fitzmaurice finished in 3:11:48, qualifying for the Boston Marathon and finishing tenth overall.
