Halloween can be a treat for dogs, too

NORMAN — What is it about dogs that make us want to dress them? Is it just because we can, or because they just look so funny dressed as something they aren’t? Like Batman, or a pumpkin, for example.

When I was a child, my parents rarely tolerated letting my dog in the house much less dressing him in costume. Somewhere between then and now, it became very popular, especially around Halloween.

It may be a little early to worry about it, but a catalogue I received in the mail warned the dog costumes were limited in number, and you should order now while supplies last. My dilemma is I can’t decide if Roz would rather be a dinosaur or a lady bug.

If you see no need for a costume for your dog, consider this: Norman has two annual events at Halloween that celebrate dogs in disguise.

Second Chance Animal Sanctuary’s Dog Day Adoption Event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Reaves Park, always features a doggie costume contest.

Also, Oct.
