The Cowboys' pistols misfired early and often in their 41-14 loss to No. 3 Texas on Saturday night.
On OSU's first drive, the Cowboys drove down the field but sputtered at the Longhorn 27-yard line. Then Dan Bailey missed a 45-yard field goal. It was a 14-play, 54-yard march that ended with nothing to show for it.
It was a scary omen for the rest of the night as the Cowboys.
After commiting one turnover in its three previous Big 12 games, OSU turned it over five times to Texas. Four came on Zac Robinson interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Curtis Brown's 77-yard interception return in the middle of the second quarter was critical as the Cowboys were driving and looking to cut the Texas lead. After Brown's pick six that lead was 17-0.
"They've got some speed and a lot of guys that are good players," coach Mike Gundy said. "And they made some plays tonight."
Robinson was 15 of 28 passing, hurting himself by trying to make some plays that weren't there. But OSU's receivers weren't much help either. Hubert Anyiam dropped a touchdown pass in the first quarter and gave Texas a short field for its first scoring drive with a fumble near midfield.
The defense was solid early in the game, holding Texas to three first-quarter points. But Texas took a 24-7 lead to halftime, fueled by two disputed calls. The first nullified what appeared to be a fumble recovery deep in Texas territory by OSU linebacker Andre Sexton gave new life to Texas' half-ending drive. The second, a personal foul on defensive end Nigel Nicholas against quarterback Colt McCoy, came one play before McCoy's TD pass to Malcolm Williams with 0:09 left.
The momentum had slipped, and the Pokes never recovered.
"Your room for error against a team like this is very thin," Gundy said. "We talked at halftime and we were really moving the ball OK, we were just turning it over. It's very difficult to win games against quality teams when you turn the ball over."

You and Jason OKC's OSU obsession is a little scary.

This is not true Angela. OSU lost because they don't have the talent level that Texas does in their players. Their coaches are not as good. Their defenses is very very average at best and their offense is below average. They have no prestige or tradition and in general they just suck. It had nothing to do with "showing up". Call up one of your girlfriends and go shoe shopping or bake some cookies or do some mopping around the house because it's obvious that football anaylsis is not your forte.
your bragging about a program that cheats to win. Always has, Always will. I'd rather have a respectable program and lose some games than be looked upon as a program that started out cheating and has never stopped. At least Gundy is doing things the ethical way.
OU tradition? ARe you talking about the cocaine tradition or what? I wouldnt be too proud of a tradition that stems from NCAA infractions. And youre basking in the glow of barely beating K State on your own field? Ha!
Tell me then Gary, what are the facts on OU's bowl records? I think the last 10 years will do... Nevermind, youre on ignore now. Go back to the trailer, put on your Charles Thompson jersey and continue masterbating to your 1984 Bozz pictures.
Typical jackass OU fan, realizes his "teams" season is a total loss so once again he dips into the "cant sell out your stadium" or "cant be consistant" crap.
Whatever Gary... how many more times is OU going to embarrass themselves on national TV? OU's bowl records are as weak as Oklahomas beer. They only sell out when they drop the price of tickets so all the trailer park people will have something to do on a Saturday. OU barely beat a crap K State team at home and your coming to the OSU forums to talk smack? What a loser.
Blame this one on the coaches. Seriously you let Justin Shipley go free off the line the entire game? There wasnt a defensive back out there that could cover him and it wasnt from lack of talent, but a poor defensive scheme all the way around. And if your offense cant get up for a big game like that one then you need to re-think your pre-game and practice routines. OSU has tons more talent then OU's thugs... time to wake up and figure out how to use them.
and upset of BSU
Before you run your uneducated mouth think about what you say and how you say it. It's obvious that your education level is low and all your doing is embarrassing yourself.
Did you really want UT to beat OSU this weekend? I mean, that means there is almost no way OU can win the Big 12 now.
You would think a smart OU fan (not you) would root for OSU when it benefits them. Call me crazy, I guess.
"I don't see you mentioning how OU skated by KSU this weekend, now would that have happened w/ Bradford in? Of course not."
Do I need to remind you of Landry's stat's from the game? Or that he led the team to a first down on a first and 45 situation??
Your rebuttal statement only made you look more stupid than your original posts did. Go find something else to do dumb girl.
"I don't see you mentioning how OU skated by KSU this weekend, now would that have happened w/ Bradford in? Of course not.
.
I don't know why you are being so defensive, I was complimenting Sam Bradford, not putting down Landry Jones. He could be a fine quarterback in the future. But, as good as Jones has looked, you cannot compare him with a Heisman trophy winning quarterback who will go in the 1st round in the NFL draft. If you asked OU fans who they would rather have in the game (especially vs. Texas) they would pick Sam Bradford. As to having "thick skin" I can take an honest, intelligent assessment of a football game, but when it comes to flat out lack of class and disrespect of your opponent, that makes me mad. You are not a fan of the game, you are a bandwagon fan of a school team that you may or may not have graduated from. Unfortunately your comments reinforce what I stated earlier, that OU enjoys a horrible reputation as fans both locally and nationally. Which is sad, because not all OU fans are like you.
I doubt that you have the mental capacity to realize that the OU football program has and always will admire cheaters. Example:
Boomer=Cheater
Sooner=Cheater
Once a cheater always a cheater. If your not smart enough to already know the meaning of "Boomer Sooner" then find a dictionary and look it up. I doubt that any Poke fan wants to model themselves after a bunch of cheating trailer trash. Now, flip those burgers!

You are the lowest life form possible, and I am sure you have very few friends. Probably just ones from the OU message board.
Landry played an excellent game and Sam's absence had no relevance in the game whatsoever.K State made some adjustments and did some nice things offensively to make it an interesting game after the 21-0 first period.Too easy...too fast is the way I saw it.
Courtney, you're on a message board for crying out loud....develop some thick skin or stay exclusively on robertallen.com.
For crying out loud nobody has even called for a Cyclone win in Ames next week....yet.
Sigh.

Have a great day!
And Mike don't come on here talking about how you are 2-0 against Oklahoma schools this year, you are 1-0. UT coming here and beating Oklahoma's Sub-Standar University is no more significant than you coming here and beating NAIA East Central University.

To me, the signature win for Mike Gundy would either be the 49-45 win over Texas Tech in Stillwater following the Jen Carlson-Bobby Reid's mother deal, or O State's win at Columbia last season. But you have to modify the win at Missouri somewhat in that Missouri went on to lose multiple games and was a major disappointment as the season moved along.
The 'anotherwords' is that despite the half billin injection of capital and the exodus of Harry Birdwell and David Schmidly is that OSU is still pretty much a mid-tier Big 12 South team and if anything--the gap might expand next year as OSU will go through the process of retooling at the QB position, while Landry might very be the pre-season pick to be Big 12 QB of the Year. No need to worry about Texas. Texas is Texas.

HOOKEM!!
But I would agree with Jason in that when OSU comes to Norman on Nov. 28th---the Sooners should win by more than 14 points as OU's secondary will clamp down on these OSU young receivers in much the same manner as Texas just did and Landry will actually expose the 106th ranked OSU pass defense much more than Colt did last night.
Here is the broader based question which should be asked by the local writers this week--has OSU in Year 5 of the Gundy Era made any strides in significantly closing the gap between O State and OU and Texas? Anotherwords, has OSU become more than just a program which alternates with Texas Tech as being the third or fourth best team in the Big 12 South--depending on whether they play each other in Lubbock or Stillwater?
Keep in mind, Leach has beaten both OU and Texas during his tenure at Tech.
Ask yourself these questions as an OSU fan in objectively coming to terms with the answer of the above question:
What was Bob Simmons' signature win at OSU?
What was Les Miles' signature win at OSU?
What has been Mike Gundy's signature win at OSU through five years?
Other than the obvious facility improvements made possible by Mr. Pickens, what tangible sign is there that the OSU program will seriously threaten Texas or OU in the Big 12 South?
