The Cowboys' pistols misfired early and often in their 41-14 loss to No. 3 Texas on Saturday night.

On OSU's first drive, the Cowboys drove down the field but sputtered at the Longhorn 27-yard line. Then Dan Bailey missed a 45-yard field goal. It was a 14-play, 54-yard march that ended with nothing to show for it.

It was a scary omen for the rest of the night as the Cowboys.

After commiting one turnover in its three previous Big 12 games, OSU turned it over five times to Texas. Four came on Zac Robinson interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Curtis Brown's 77-yard interception return in the middle of the second quarter was critical as the Cowboys were driving and looking to cut the Texas lead. After Brown's pick six that lead was 17-0.

"They've got some speed and a lot of guys that are good players," coach Mike Gundy said. "And they made some plays tonight."

Robinson was 15 of 28 passing, hurting himself by trying to make some plays that weren't there. But OSU's receivers weren't much help either. Hubert Anyiam dropped a touchdown pass in the first quarter and gave Texas a short field for its first scoring drive with a fumble near midfield.

The defense was solid early in the game, holding Texas to three first-quarter points. But Texas took a 24-7 lead to halftime, fueled by two disputed calls. The first nullified what appeared to be a fumble recovery deep in Texas territory by OSU linebacker Andre Sexton gave new life to Texas' half-ending drive. The second, a personal foul on defensive end Nigel Nicholas against quarterback Colt McCoy, came one play before McCoy's TD pass to Malcolm Williams with 0:09 left.

The momentum had slipped, and the Pokes never recovered.

"Your room for error against a team like this is very thin," Gundy said. "We talked at halftime and we were really moving the ball OK, we were just turning it over. It's very difficult to win games against quality teams when you turn the ball over."

Jason - Shut the f up... Did u even go to school at OU?? Show some class as OU fan. Guys like you who grew up in hoods and have no connection with school act like a$$ holes. Don't make us (all OU fans) look stupid by making such comments. If you want to make some comments, get on our articles and post your dumb a$$ comments. Leave OSU fans alone.
Bhavin, Oklahoma City - Nov 2, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Hey Gary, you loser. Dykes got OU in trouble as well. Get a better idea of things and then come back and be an OU troll.

You and Jason OKC's OSU obsession is a little scary.
Jacob, Kansas - Nov 2, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Big OSU fan here and all I can say to my other poke fans is give it a rest. I am talking about all the blogs from the Gary guy who has nothing to do today. Call it like it is we got beat and we got beat bad but that doesn't change what is going on at OSU. We have had some set backs this year with the loss of Hunter and Bryant but we will bounce back from this one game.
Kevin, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 4:35 pm
My comments are done. Enjoy your lonely life. And good luck in Norman. Hope its a clean and exciting game for everyone. And try to show a little more class next time.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Now that is what kind of comment I expected to see from you!!!! Actually talking sports on here. I knew you had it in you! And I dont try to act like I am huge into sports. I guess I make comments on here like any "woman" would in your eyes. Go ahead and say what you like...no concern to me. This is a place to give your thought and opinions and that is all I did. I said it once I will say it again. OSU did look terrible. I HAVE BEEN TO EVERY GAME AND HAVE SEEN THEM PLAY A MUCH BETTER GAME. So I blame the team...the OSU team. I guess your ignorant comments below would also point out that BYU was a more superior team over OU.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Angela no need to clarify that your are not huge into sports, it is obvious. I think Stevie Wonder "see's it" better than you. From what I understand OSU and Texas played a football game Saturday night, so to me they "showed up". Ever think that Texas being the far superior team had anything to do with OSU looking terrible, or as you would say had anything to do with them "showing up". If you lOSU'r fan's think you got embarrassed Sat at home, wait until you have to go to Norman.

AND by no means am I huge into sports like you are assuming is my forte...but nor do I like shopping or mopping at that fact....im not trying to talk statistics or anything like that. I am just calling it as I see it. I have seen OSU play so much better than they did. So honestly what is it that I have said that makes you assume that I am trying to be some big sports analyst on here or something?
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Typical male. That doesnt surprise me Jason! Really you had to go there didnt you? Well shows what type of person you really are. Maybe OSU doesnt have the best of everything that Texas has. But the game would have been a little more interesting had OSU showed up. And the way a team plays does have something to do with showing up! So continue to be the typical male that you are showing all of us. Im sure that you will spend the rest of your life a lonely old man with that attitude! And if you do have a girlfriend/boyfriend, husband/wife, I feel really sorry for them. Of course you cant just stick to the talk of sports on here...you have to try to make it personal.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 3:56 pm
"OSU lost because they didnt show up and play as the team that they can be."

This is not true Angela. OSU lost because they don't have the talent level that Texas does in their players. Their coaches are not as good. Their defenses is very very average at best and their offense is below average. They have no prestige or tradition and in general they just suck. It had nothing to do with "showing up". Call up one of your girlfriends and go shoe shopping or bake some cookies or do some mopping around the house because it's obvious that football anaylsis is not your forte.
Jason, Oklahoma City - Nov 2, 2009 at 3:49 pm
All I am trying to say is regardless of those bad calls...OSU still would have lost. Thats obvious. So in NO way shape or form was I blaming it on the refs why OSU lost. OSU lost because they didnt show up and play as the team that they can be. Noone likes to see referees give a bad call in any game. Im sure that Gary wasnt whining when the refs made such a terrible call in that Oregon game a few years back right? So point blank...when a ref makes a bad call...a fan is going to gripe. Doesnt mean i think its the refs fault we lost.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Very nice Jason. Sometime I will return the comment. And your team choice is who? Looks like there are people on here who can dish it out and not take it from all over!!!! Way to go Jason! You just showed everyone that NON-AGGIES or Non turd bag aggies are just as classless!!!! See Gary Below.

Jason, Oklahoma City - Nov 2, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Ok GARY....you need to open your eyes. Read my first sentence!!! I said they blew it themselves!! Ok got that??? are you following me??? But there was some very VERY bad calls the first half. Had it been OU, Texas, or any other college they would say the same thing. There is always going to be bad calls in every game....that was my point. There was bad calls and you and anyone else watching that game knows it.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I can take it!!! Im a woman...and not 40...actually not even 30 yet.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Oops. I take that back Angela. Just read your last post. You're back with the rest of the classless OSU fans. The pokes got homered by ref's on their own home field? No. They got outplayed. Good excuse though. When you get your butt kicked, blame it on the officiating. Sorry for the earlier compliment. I guess your aggie DNA caught up to you.

Angela. Good for you. Your post indicates that you are (one of the few) classy OSU fans. However, I think that some of the other fans, like Jeffrey, need to go back and check on Willie Anderson and Hart Lee Dykes. Not only did they get OSU put on probation, they gave the university a bad reputation around the country. So I would be careful before I started accusing some school of cheating. Unless Jeffrey knows something the rest of us don't I think that Stoops runs a clean program. And hey, this is all in fun. You guys can sure dish it out but you can't take it.

And I know that OSU blew it themselves...but I would love to see if anyone can honestly say that they thought the Refs did a good job in the first half? They hosed OSU on some obvious calls. I was going to wear my blind ref costume but realized I didnt need to. The real refs wore that costume just fine.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Really?!? Not all OSU fans are as bad as you all are making them out to be. I was at the game. Yeah it was crap. Yeah it sucked. But hey theres always the years to come. And so far this year we have a winning season so I am enjoying it.
Angela, Yukon - Nov 2, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Gary,
your bragging about a program that cheats to win. Always has, Always will. I'd rather have a respectable program and lose some games than be looked upon as a program that started out cheating and has never stopped. At least Gundy is doing things the ethical way.

7 National Championships, 42 Conference Titles, 24 Bowl wins, 148 All Americans and 5 Heisman Trophy winners. That's tradition Michael. You wanted to know OU's bowl record? It's 24-17-1. And you want to talk about cheaters? Ever heard of a coach name Willie Anderson? Or a player name Hart Lee Dykes? Between the two of them, they broke more NCAA rules than one could imagine. And I really like your classy post at the end. Can't win an argument so you have to result to classless name calling. Keep it up. Your making the Aggies proud. And for all you cry baby aggies who are whining because we are giving you a hard time about losing to Texas, read your posts from last week. From the posts that I read, OSU had already won the game, and a national championship before the game was even played. If it weren't so pathetic, it would be funny. Oh yeah. It is funny. You aggies can sure dish it out but you can't take it.

I'll admit it was a tough game to sit and watch. The first half was some really bad calls. The Texas fans who sat the row behind us even admitted they were bad and that they don't even get that good of officiating on their own field. They said stuff like that usually goes the home team's way. Now the 2nd half, that was all OSU. We did ourselves in. Even though the game wasn't how I wanted it to go, we had a real good time in Stillwater. The UT fans were very friendly and fun. I never ran into any bashers after the game. Regardless of the end result, I'll be back on the 14th for the next game and as usual, stay until the clock runs out.

OU tradition? ARe you talking about the cocaine tradition or what? I wouldnt be too proud of a tradition that stems from NCAA infractions. And youre basking in the glow of barely beating K State on your own field? Ha!
Tell me then Gary, what are the facts on OU's bowl records? I think the last 10 years will do... Nevermind, youre on ignore now. Go back to the trailer, put on your Charles Thompson jersey and continue masterbating to your 1984 Bozz pictures.

Jacob, Kansas - Nov 2, 2009 at 11:36 am
Michael. It's "can't" and "consistent". That Aggie degree is really paying off for you. Don't blame the Sooners because you can't sell out a game. And Gee, Mike sorry you and all of your aggie friends are so jealous of all of the OU tradition. Typical Aggie. Can't find anything positive to say about his program so he trashes OU. And Gee Mike, two Oklahoma teams were on national tv this weekend. Want to guess which one was an embarrasment? Oh, and before you post, you might want to get your facts straight on OU's overall bowl record and consecutive sellouts. You post incorrect statements and it makes you look like a moron.

Gee Gary... I didnt realize the grammar police was out today.
Typical jackass OU fan, realizes his "teams" season is a total loss so once again he dips into the "cant sell out your stadium" or "cant be consistant" crap.
Whatever Gary... how many more times is OU going to embarrass themselves on national TV? OU's bowl records are as weak as Oklahomas beer. They only sell out when they drop the price of tickets so all the trailer park people will have something to do on a Saturday. OU barely beat a crap K State team at home and your coming to the OSU forums to talk smack? What a loser.

Michael. Put down the pipe and quit smokin that stuff. It is apparently causing brain damage. "OSU has tons more talent then (it should be "than" but what the hell, you're an aggie) OU's thugs. Everyone gets tired of hearing "this is the year" and then (see, that's how you use the word "then") after OSU loses to both UT and OU it's "wait until next year!". Get a clue. Until OSU can compete on a consistent basis with UT and OU and win a conference championship, it will always be a second tier Big 12 team. And here's a suggestion. When a top 3 team comes to play in a nationally televised game - sell out your stadium. It was priceless watching a bunch of stunned aggies stand there like zombies while their team took an a-whoopin from Texas for the 12th straight time. Don't go changin to try and please us - we love ya just the way you are.

Blame this one on the coaches. Seriously you let Justin Shipley go free off the line the entire game? There wasnt a defensive back out there that could cover him and it wasnt from lack of talent, but a poor defensive scheme all the way around. And if your offense cant get up for a big game like that one then you need to re-think your pre-game and practice routines. OSU has tons more talent then OU's thugs... time to wake up and figure out how to use them.
Michael, Oklahoma City - Nov 2, 2009 at 9:20 am
Big OU fan here, I really thought OSU would beat Texas, albeit close. With pretty much the same team that held Texas to 16 points, the Sooners will meet OSU in Norman. Make your own predictions.

To the guy, whatever your name is who said girls should stick to knitting, etc: Your comments prove your low level of intelligence and what kind of person you are. I really feel sorry for you that you have that view of women, someone should remind you that this is 2009, not 1955.
I don't know why you are being so defensive, I was complimenting Sam Bradford, not putting down Landry Jones. He could be a fine quarterback in the future. But, as good as Jones has looked, you cannot compare him with a Heisman trophy winning quarterback who will go in the 1st round in the NFL draft. If you asked OU fans who they would rather have in the game (especially vs. Texas) they would pick Sam Bradford. As to having "thick skin" I can take an honest, intelligent assessment of a football game, but when it comes to flat out lack of class and disrespect of your opponent, that makes me mad. You are not a fan of the game, you are a bandwagon fan of a school team that you may or may not have graduated from. Unfortunately your comments reinforce what I stated earlier, that OU enjoys a horrible reputation as fans both locally and nationally. Which is sad, because not all OU fans are like you.
Courtney, Oklahoma City - Nov 1, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Jason,
I doubt that you have the mental capacity to realize that the OU football program has and always will admire cheaters. Example:
Boomer=Cheater
Sooner=Cheater
Once a cheater always a cheater. If your not smart enough to already know the meaning of "Boomer Sooner" then find a dictionary and look it up. I doubt that any Poke fan wants to model themselves after a bunch of cheating trailer trash. Now, flip those burgers!

How can you say the KSU game would have been different with Bradford? Landry Jones was 26-37 for 294 yards 4TD's and no interceptions. Courtney I hate to say it but comments like yours below is why girls should stick to knitting and cooking and stuff.
Jason, Oklahoma City - Nov 1, 2009 at 10:41 am
I wish that I could say that I am shocked by the lack of class that OU fans show, but I am not. To gloat over a team who has lost two of their star players, just as you did, is ridiculous and hypocritical. Let's face it, neither team's season has turned out like they would want it. Both have had to overcome major hurdles that were unfortunate. I don't see you mentioning how OU skated by KSU this weekend, now would that have happened w/ Bradford in? Of course not. OU would have obliterated KSU. I am not saying that OSU would have beaten Texas w/ Hunter or Bryant playing, no one can know that for sure, but it MADE a difference. It is posts like these below that give OU fans such a poor national reputation as fans. Grow up!

Totally embarrassing loss by the Chokes. This is what happens when you go around pumping your chest talking about how good you are when you haven't played anyone. Gundy 0-9 all time against TX/OU, get used to it. You think you got embarrassed at home wait until you have to go to Norman. And lets hear all of the "man if we would have had dez...those ref's were horrible" posts since that's all OSU and their fan's ever do is make excuses and point fingers instead of accepting mediocrity. OSU is terrible, not a top 25 team by a longshot to echo el prez.

And Mike don't come on here talking about how you are 2-0 against Oklahoma schools this year, you are 1-0. UT coming here and beating Oklahoma's Sub-Standar University is no more significant than you coming here and beating NAIA East Central University.

OU 52 OSU 7
Jason, Oklahoma City - Nov 1, 2009 at 9:51 am
Okay--the 'anotherwords' would be that despite all the hoopla from the local media during this Pickens Renaissance is that bascially OSU is pretty much the same as they were during the Simmons' and Miles' era, but both of those coaches had some success against Texas and Oklahoma.

To me, the signature win for Mike Gundy would either be the 49-45 win over Texas Tech in Stillwater following the Jen Carlson-Bobby Reid's mother deal, or O State's win at Columbia last season. But you have to modify the win at Missouri somewhat in that Missouri went on to lose multiple games and was a major disappointment as the season moved along.

The 'anotherwords' is that despite the half billin injection of capital and the exodus of Harry Birdwell and David Schmidly is that OSU is still pretty much a mid-tier Big 12 South team and if anything--the gap might expand next year as OSU will go through the process of retooling at the QB position, while Landry might very be the pre-season pick to be Big 12 QB of the Year. No need to worry about Texas. Texas is Texas.

The Chokes have maintained their usual losing ways in big games. Pretenders always. They have never and will never win the Big 12 South, let alone the Big 12 Championship. They will also never sniff a BCS game. Just the way it is for the Chokes.

I love it!!.. Texas 2 Oklahoma Schools 0 two years in a row. HOOKEM!!!!!! Talk all the smack you want to below but at the end of the day no matter what you say, you're both losers to Texas. The only good thing about about both your teams is that 60-70% of your players are Texans.

HOOKEM!!

I, for one, am sick of the annual hype of the pretenders. The Sooners and Longhorns have a stranglehold on this conference and the little sisters aren't even close. Texas Tech deserves respect for being an occasional spoiler and making a solid '08 run, but that's about it. 41-14 on your homefield and ABC primetime? Nice, Cowboys.

"Anotherwords"?

Jacob, for the most part, the comments have been very mild considering what transpired in the game. Although Jason is dicking with you--the obvious has to be stated...in a signature game at home in the national spotlight...OSU was not competitive and basically beat themselves on multiple fronts. McCoy was functional with a 16-21 night for 177 yards, 1 TD pass and no picks, but nothing gaudy like with Case Keenum in the Houston game. He did just enough to help his team close out the game as the OSU miscues piled up. OSU is not a Top 25 team. Don't get me wrong--I don't think OU is a Top 10 team right now....so I'm not gloating by any means.

But I would agree with Jason in that when OSU comes to Norman on Nov. 28th---the Sooners should win by more than 14 points as OU's secondary will clamp down on these OSU young receivers in much the same manner as Texas just did and Landry will actually expose the 106th ranked OSU pass defense much more than Colt did last night.

Here is the broader based question which should be asked by the local writers this week--has OSU in Year 5 of the Gundy Era made any strides in significantly closing the gap between O State and OU and Texas? Anotherwords, has OSU become more than just a program which alternates with Texas Tech as being the third or fourth best team in the Big 12 South--depending on whether they play each other in Lubbock or Stillwater?

Keep in mind, Leach has beaten both OU and Texas during his tenure at Tech.

Ask yourself these questions as an OSU fan in objectively coming to terms with the answer of the above question:

What was Bob Simmons' signature win at OSU?
What was Les Miles' signature win at OSU?
What has been Mike Gundy's signature win at OSU through five years?

Other than the obvious facility improvements made possible by Mr. Pickens, what tangible sign is there that the OSU program will seriously threaten Texas or OU in the Big 12 South?

What's embarrassing is listening to Oklahoman's talking about other state teams and players. I hope the players and coaches don't read this crap! And Jason, every year injuries and calls change games or even seasons. OU has had several calls and some injuries that have affected games!! I feel bad for Zac, and hope he comes back next week and continues to lead the Cowboys the rest of the season! Keep your head up!

OU has as good if not better D than texas. I was worried about OSU in the Bedlam game, not amymore. OU 35-10 in Bedlam.

Boomer loser here. But I am a little different from most of you okies that hate one another. I root for both. Just OU is my fav. Anyhow, Ben posted exactly what I was thinking. Now we'll never get rid of the ESPN and Texas make out session. Sickening. Oh well.
