Famed designer Halston’s life makes for interesting reading.
And now his sister Sue Frowick Watkins and brother Donald E. Frowick are collaborating on a book portraying the life of their famous fashion designer brother, Roy Halston Frowick, who created the Jackie Kennedy pill box hat for President Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961. Soon Halston was friends with and designer for some of the most well-known women and celebrities in the world.
That pill box launched his career as one of America’s greatest fashion designers.
Best known as Halston, the designer’s life story is full of twists and turns. In spite of his success and creativity, a history of drug use and failure to meet deadlines undermined his achievements. In 1984, after a downward spiral, he was fired from his own company and lost the right to design and sell clothes under his own name.
He died of lung cancer and complications of AIDS in San Francisco in 1990.
