Hands-on camp encourages careers in science, math

At the camp, sixth- through eighth-grade students are learning about scientific terms and equipment, doing hands-on experiments, and learning about engineering and other science careers.

The free academic camp is geared for American Indian and other minority students. The two-week camp, Earth Cycles: A Whole-Earth Approach to the Geosciences, was sponsored by the university, The Harris Foundation and the ExxonMobil Foundation.

The goal of the camp is to encourage middle school students to stay in school, to develop their knowledge of science and math, and to encourage them to pursue careers in those fields.
