NORMAN — The Sooner football recruit who figures to make the biggest impact in 2009 stood on the outside looking in Wednesday in the Norman North library.
While four teammates took turns parading with parents to the table of honor to sign letters of intent, kicker Bryce Easley stood in the pack of students and friends with a big smile on his face.
Maybe because he knows what’s coming in September.
No ceremony. No scholarship. But there’s a good chance Easley will take the field before any of the blue-chip prospects who dominate the football waves this time of year.
And that field could be Jerry’s World in Arlington, Texas.
Easley will join the Sooners as a walk-on, but he’s been promised a scholarship for 2010 and the chance to win the kicking job in 2009.
Rules bar the OU coaches from talking about a recruit they haven’t signed, but make no mistake, Easley excites the Sooners after a season in which the kicking game was a thorn in Bob Stoops’ flesh.
It is not crazy to think that Easley could be OU’s man on both place-kicks and kickoffs come Sept.
