The Cowboys were featured in 2002 when Dave Campo was coach. It's no surprise the encore didn't occur in the four years when the grumpy Bill Parcells was at the helm.
The series, which debuts at 9 p.m. Wednesday, will run for five weeks.
For Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, any publicity is good publicity, even if it involves the antics of controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens or defensive back Adam "Pacman” Jones, who is waiting to be reinstated by the NFL.
"Our staff recognizes that we've always viewed visibility and exposure as an opportunity to build the Dallas Cowboys,” Jones said Thursday in a conference call.
NFL Films president Steve Sabol, who called the Cowboys "the presumptive Super Bowl favorite,” also said he is ecstatic about having a behind-the-scenes look at the team his company dubbed "America's Team” in 1975.
NFL Films' 25-member crew keeps a camera focused nonstop on Jones, who also is busy with his stadium project in Arlington, Texas.
"I'm building the largest stadium that's ever been built, and I'm spending over a billion dollars,” Jones said. "I may be talking about Terry Glenn and then, all of a sudden, I'm talking about stadium issues.”
A variety of celebrities will visit training camp at Oxnard, Calif., and might appear on the series. Among those expected to visit are Kevin Costner, Dennis Miller and the cast of "Entourage.” And, of course, Jessica Simpson is planning to visit boyfriend, quarterback Tony Romo.
