Harding baseball player wins Prospect League award

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — Harding University senior baseball player Matt Calhoun has been selected as the Mike Schmidt Player of the Year for the Prospect League.

The league is a summer wood-bat league with teams in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Calhoun is a first baseman and a native of Searcy. He played in 49 games for the Slippery Rock Sliders where he hit .358 with seven home runs and 58 RBI.

In his three-year Harding career, Calhoun has a .276 batting average with 10 home runs and 72 RBI in 129 games.
