Col. William S. Hartsell, 3d, USAF, Retired, and Mrs. Glenda Lee (Westvang) Hartsell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on
June 18, 2006 in a surprise (for Glenda) wedding vow renewal ceremony with military honors at the Summerall Chapel, the Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina.
The Hartsells were married in the Summerall Chapel on June 18th, 1966, following his graduation from the Citadel and commissioning into the U.S. Air Force.
Most of the original 1966 wedding party, and relatives and friends, were brought together from all parts of the
United States as a reunion. The original best man, Mr.
Pat Howe, and the original groomsmen - Mr. Jack Massie (Citadel Class of '67), Mr. Jerry Dupuy (Citadel Class of
'66), Mr. Bill Westvang (Glenda's brother), and Mr. Greg and Mr. Perry Hartsell (Bill's brothers) again attended
their duties. The original bride's Maiden of Honor, Mrs. Patsy Brougham, again attended Mrs. Hartsell. The
bridesmaids were this time all family daughters - Angela, Teresa and Tyrene. The processional bell ringers were
the older grandkids - McRae, Katie, Jarom and Dallin Hartsell. The presiding L.D.S. church official was Mr.
Jack Rose. Giving away the "bride" were sons Dr. Bill and Capt. Brian Hartsell and daughter Mrs. Angela Lindsay.
The surprise weekend's pre-wedding events started with a wedding party reunion dinner on Friday night, followed by a Saturday tea after rehearsal for the bride and her attendants and an evening Charleston harbor dinner cruise aboard the Spirit of Carolina for the wedding party
and additional relatives and friends joining the weekend's festivities.
