Walk to raise awareness, funds for treatment of mental illness
You can help raise awareness and reduce the stigma of mental illness by participating in the National Alliance on Mental Illness Oklahoma (NAMI) Walk at 9:15 a.m. May 18 at Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Hefner. The 10th annual 5k walk will benefit Oklahomans with mental illnesses and their families. Before the walk, Dr. R. Murali Krishna will present his namesake Eliminate the Stigma of Mental Illness Award to a family. The $1,000 cash award was developed as a way to honor people or organizations that have shown an outstanding contribution to the community by eliminating the stigma of mental illness and improving the lives of those affected by it. Krishna also will be on hand to sign copies of his new book, “VIBRANT, To Heal and Be Whole, From India to Oklahoma City.” To participate as a walker or sponsor, or to nominate someone for the award, contact Gail Israel at 230-1900, email firstname.lastname@example.org or go online to www.namiwalks.org/oklahoma.
