NORMAN — A new health care clinic and pharmacy will be built by the Chickasaw Nation in a complex next to Riverwind Casino.
Officials broke ground on the project Thursday.
Sovereign Medical Clinic will be a 13,700-square-foot facility with 12 exam rooms, a laboratory, a retail pharmacy and a gift shop. Services will include medical care and radiology. The adjacent Sovereign Pharmacy & Fine Gifts is described as an upscale boutique with gifts for bridal and baby showers, and Oklahoma-made Bedre Fine Chocolate.
The medical services are needed to serve the increased number of employees in the region, said Chris Anoatubby, chief medical solutions officer for the Chickasaw Nation. The tribe operates a similar clinic in Ada.
“We have quickly learned offering convenient access to a high-quality health care clinic and pharmacy services is valued highly among our employees, both native and non-native, who are in search of primary health care services,” he said. “This new facility takes our ability to serve one step further as we also will be able to provide convenient health care for anyone living in Norman, Purcell and Blanchard areas.”
The facility is expected to open in the fall of 2013.
