Heat advisory in effect in Oklahoma until Saturday night

A heat advisory is in effect for most of Oklahoma. The advisory has been issued for western, southern, central and northern parts of the state through Saturday night.

A heat advisory is in effect in most of Oklahoma through Saturday night, the National Weather Service reports.

Dangerously high temperatures are expected through the weekend before cooler weather arrives next week.

The heat index Friday in central Oklahoma will be near 100 degrees. Actual high temperatures in the Oklahoma City area Saturday will be near 101 degrees, the weather service reports.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows:

Friday: Sunny and hot with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 100. South wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear with a low around 76. South wind 11 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Saturday: Sunny and hot with a high near 101. South, southwest wind 11 to 17 mph with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear with a low around 76. South wind 10 to 16 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph.
