Temperatures will heat up Friday in central Oklahoma. The heat index will be near 100 degrees, the National Weather Service reports.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows:

Friday: Mostly sunny with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 100. South wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Friday night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 73. South wind 6 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy with a high near 90. South wind 6 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 72. South, southeast wind 8 to 13 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny with a high near 91. South wind 10 to 13 mph.

Sunday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely mainly after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
