Temperatures are heating up in central Oklahoma for Labor Day weekend.

Friday, the heat index will rise to near 97 degrees with wind gusts near 28 mph in Oklahoma City.

Saturday temperatures will be near 98 degrees. Then Sunday temperatures will be near 99 degrees in central Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma City forecast from the National Weather Service is as follows:

Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 7 a.m. Partly sunny with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 97. North, northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

Friday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 71. North wind 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday: Sunny and hot with a high near 98. North, northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 71. South wind 6 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. South wind around 10 mph.

Sunday night: Mostly clear with a low around 75.

Labor Day: Sunny with a high near 96.

Monday night: Mostly clear with a low around 74.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 97.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 72.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny with a high near 96.

Wednesday night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy with a low around 71.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny with a high near 86.
