Heavy rain moving through Oklahoma; flood warning issued

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are moving this morning through Oklahoma, mostly south of Interstate 40 and east of I-35.

Rain chances will continue through tonight before drier air moves into the state, according to the National Weather Service. Still, rain chances return during the second half of the week and continue through this weekend.

Today across the state should be partly to mostly cloudy with highs from the mid-70s to mid-80s.

Tonight's lows are expected to be from the lower 60s to lower 70s. Rain and thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the southeast.

Highs tomorrow across the state should be in the 80s and 90s with lows in the 60s and 70s.

At 8:30 a.m., about 750 Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. customers in Agra, Norman, north Oklahoma City and Wewoka reported power outages. At the height of the outages, about 4,500 OG&E customers were without power.

Oklahoma forecast

Today: Highs from the upper 70s to upper 80s.

Tonight: Lows from 60 to 70. Chance of rain and thunderstorms, mainly in the southeast.

Tuesday: Highs from the upper 80s to mid-90s. Chance of rain and thunderstorms in the southeast.

Oklahoma City-area forecast

Today: Highs in the lower 80s. Easterly winds about 10 mph. Thunderstorms likely in the afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s. Northeasterly winds about 10 mph. Twenty percent chance of thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. Northeasterly winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 60s. Northeasterly winds up to 10 mph.

From midnight to 8 a.m., today, more than 5 1/2 inches of was reported in Shawnee in Pottawatomie County, according to the Oklahoma Mesonet.

• 1.36 inches, north Oklahoma City.

• 1.21 inches, east Oklahoma City.

• 1.03 inches, Sallisaw.

Warnings, watch, advisory issued

Flash flood warning

Until 10 a.m. today: Cleveland, northwestern McClain and southern Oklahoma counties.

Until 2:15 p.m. today: southwestern Haskell, Latimer, southern McIntosh and northern Pittsburg counties.

A flash flood warning means flash flooding is occurring or is imminent. A flash flood is usually the result of heavy or excessive amounts of rainfall within a short period of time, usually less than 6 hours, causing water to rise and fall quite rapidly.

Flood warning

Until 11:45 a.m. today: Hughes, northern Pottawatomie and Seminole counties.

A flood warning means flooding is occurring or is imminent. Rivers and creeks are overflowing and heavy runoff or drainage of water into low-lying areas is happening.

Flash flood watch

Through tonight: Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, Le Flore, McIntish, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Pushmataha and Sequoyah counties.

A flash flood watch means conditions are favorable for flash flooding. A flash flood is usually the result of heavy or excessive amounts of rainfall within a short period of time, usually less than 6 hours, causing water to rise and fall quite rapidly.

Urban and small stream flood advisory

Until 9:15 a.m. today: Central Cleveland and northwestern McClain counties.

Until 11: 15 a.m. today: Canadian, northern Grady, southern Blaine and northern Caddo counties.

An urban and small stream flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
