OCG&CC PRESIDENT’S BALL
Occasion: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club President Jim Hazelwood, and his wife, Cindy, were honorees at the President’s Ball.
Say cheese: Past presidents got together for a group photo. As guests entered the foyer, a party pic machine was set up and gave guests an opportunity to have their photos taken. They were sent directly to their phones and email addresses.
Find your place: Table assignments were names of Napa/Sonoma wineries instead of numbers. Place setting cards were displayed in halved wine corks.
Vineyard theme: Special food and wine pairings were served using a Napa Valley vineyard theme. Wine barrel lazy susans were in the middle of each table with such menu items as Maytag bleu cheese, citrus brined olives, Marcona almonds, peanut butter and mushroom macarons served with tiny tubes of jalapeno and caramelized onion jelly. Also there was bleu cheese cakes with fruit caviar, and deconstructed reubens made with a Swiss-rye wafer, dried corned beef and sauerkraut. Also served was beef tenderloin, and chocolate grapefruit tart, chocolate sorbet and caramel sauce. Tall topiary trees filled with sunflowers, mums and roses were centerpieces. Woven hemp-colored linen tablecloths and napkins were used and the napkins were tied with raffia ribbons with red roses.

Music: About 250 members danced to the music of the “Jam-Wows.”

ENGLISH SPEAKING UNION
Dinner/lecture: Nicholas Bennett, JP, from London, recently was the guest lecturer for the Oklahoma City Branch of the English Speaking Union. The 80 members met in the Sable Room of the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. His topic was “Up Close and Personal with a Member of the British Parliament.” He looked at the differences and similarities between the U.S. and British political and governmental systems.
Mission statement: Warren Edwards, president of ESU, noted that the group’s mission statement is: “Believing that the peace of the world and the progress of mankind can be largely helped by the unity in purpose of the English-Speaking Democracies, we pledge ourselves to promote by every means in our power a good understanding between the peoples of the USA and the British Commonwealth.”
Other activities: The English Speaking Union meets monthly. Coming up in May is the Queen’s birthday party. In July the ESU, along with the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., sponsors a two-day “Shakespeare Set Free” workshop.
Awards luncheon: Winners of the University of Oklahoma President’s Trophy were introduced recently at OU’s Beaird Lounge in the Oklahoma Memorial Union in Norman. OU President David L. Boren presented the awards. Members of the Crimson Club, the university’s ambassador organization composed of OU student leaders, coordinated the competition.
Winners: Award winners were Headington Hall, Housing Winner; Kappa Alpha Theta, Sorority Winner, and Beta Theta Pi, Fraternity Winner. They received trophies and $5,000. Outstanding commuter students receiving trophies and $500 were Pooja Vijavargiya and Neal Walia.
SPRING GOLF LUNCHEON
Annual luncheon: Members of the Ladies 18-hole Golf Association at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club met for lunch. They discussed spring golf activities for the group. Tim Fleming, club golf professional, talked about the golf program.
Flowers: Hydrangea plants were table centerpieces.
