Picnic, Birthday Party, Dinner, Luncheon

Event: Becky Lynn Grantham and Gary Charles Johnston were hosts at a “Picnic in Provence” party Aug. 15 at their new French-styled home and gardens.

Menu: French cheeses, including Brie, were served with seasonal fruits and olives, poached salmon, grilled shrimp and beef tenderloin, salads and relishes, brownies and lemon tarts. Marla Therrien was the caterer.

Entertainment: Robert Fasol, organist and choirmaster at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, played piano in the cabana, and Ali & Danielle, SoltaniMusic, played strings and keyboard.

Guests: There were 300 guests and 31 family members.

The weekend finale: The couple were married Aug. 17 at Chapel Hill Methodist Church with immediate family members attending.


Occasion: Mike Turpen was honored for the publication of his new book “Turpen Time: The Wit and Wisdom of Mike Turpen.” Oklahoma City University President Robert Henry and Oklahoma Historical Society Executive Director Bob Blackburn were hosts for dinner at the Oklahoma History Center.

Program: Robert Henry, Polly Nichols and Judy Love gave remarks at the event, and Jay Hannah was the master of ceremonies. There were performances from OCU students, faculty and alumni. Video tributes to Turpen and Clara Luper were on the program. The event benefited OCU’s Clara Luper Scholars Endowed Fund.
